mrc Press Release
m-Power now connects with even more databases
June 2011 Lombard, IL - Today, software tool developer michaels, ross & cole, ltd. (mrc) announces that m-Power now connects
with two more databases. m-Power is software
that rapidly creates web applications such as report-writing, business intelligence, executive dashboards, e-commerce, customer portals, and
wireless applications to name a few.
When it was released back in 2004, m-Power worked solely with IBM's AS/400 database. Since that time, the list of databases available to m-Power
users has grown substantially to also include:
- IMS
- Informix
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Access
- Oracle
- MySQL
With this latest enhancement, m-Power now connects with two more popular databases: Progress and PostgreSQL. These new database options help businesses in a couple of ways:
- Creates new options: It's not uncommon for businesses to have a main database (like an AS/400), supplemented with an open source database (like PostgreSQL). m-Power lets these businesses build applications that pull data from both databases simultaneously. For example, one web report could display data from multiple databases on one page.
- Future flexibility: When companies merge with or acquire another company, data consolidation is often a nightmare. If the company's software doesn't support multiple databases, they will have problems connecting the new data with their existing database. For example, if a company using an AS/400 acquires a company using Progress, they'll need a software tool that connects to both databases. m-Power's additional database support offers more flexibility for companies merging with or acquiring other companies.
"This is an exciting new step forward," says Brian Crowley, mrc's Director of Development. "Regardless of what database a company currently uses, additional database support opens up new options and flexibility for many customers."
