mrc Press Release
mrc simplifies development and improves application speed
November 2010 Lombard, IL - Today, software developer mrc announces a couple of new m-Power enhancements which simplify
application development and improve application speed.
m-Power is
software that modernizes legacy applications and rapidly creates web applications such as report-writing, business intelligence, executive
dashboards, e-commerce, customer portals, and wireless applications to name a few.
mrc recently improved m-Power in two ways: First, users can now register SQL views to m-Power and create applications over them as if they
were tables. SQL views are virtual tables which combine or filter data from one or more database tables. Second, mrc added a new "database
performance" option to m-Power, which automatically creates indexes for the user. Here's a brief description of each enhancement:
-
SQL views simplify application development: SQL views let users place important data, from one or many tables, into one
"virtual" table. This data is often a small subset of a much larger table or a combination of many different tables. Users then create
applications over this virtual table, without needing to join or filter database tables every time they create an application.
For example, suppose you needed to run a few reports using data from 10 different tables. Instead of joining each table together for each application, just create an SQL view combining all the necessary data and then create your applications over that view. As another example, suppose you needed to run a few reports using a small portion of data from a very large table. Instead of adding filters to each application, just create an SQL view pulling only the necessary data from the larger table and then create applications over that view. - Database indexes improve application speed: When applications run slowly, poor database performance is usually the culprit. Database indexes typically improve database performance, but usually require database administration skills. With this latest enhancement, mrc added a "Database Performance" button to the m-Power interface. This button suggests database indexes that would improve application speed, and lets authorized users automatically create those indexes with a simple mouse click.
"These new enhancements bring some serious power to the m-Power user," says Brian Crowley, mrc's Director of Development. "SQL views and database indexes are very powerful improvements that most any application can benefit from."
