How to Create Speedometers
A speedometer graph is a great tool to help
visualize percentages, as well as other fixed-range amounts for end users. They
can also be color coded (see below), so that certain ranges are categorized
with different colors. Speedometers can even be used to graph multiple sets of
data, with multiple needles pointing to your data. However, for this tutorial,
we will focus on the single set of data.
Below is an example of a speedometer where the data is a percentage (perfect
for pre-defined range 0 – 100) of how many calls are resolved the same day. As
the data fluctuates, so does the needle.
Setting up the speedometer is simple and will only take a few minutes…
1) Generate, build, and compile a report as usual. Be sure to select “Report with Graph” from the Application Defaults link.
2) Open m-Painter
You should now see a screen similar to this:

3) Right click on the bar graph and select “Graph Properties.”
4)
Select “Speedometer Chart” from the Image Style drop
down box. (Optional) At the bottom of the Image Properties tab screen (Under
Speedometer Graph Only), you can alter specific options such as section colors,
needle width, etc…
5) Click the “Image Data Collection” tab.

6)
In the Graph Values text area box, place the data you
wish to graph. In our case, we only wish to graph one value (the SAMPCT field
from the grand Total level). Next, type in a meaningful description in the
Graph Value Descriptions
Note: The number of descriptions [separated by commas] must match the number of
graph values.)
7)
The graph value groups are what separate the ranges in
your data by value. At each break (noted
by comma), the color will shift to indicate a new group. The Speedometer Graph
Section is what serves as the description
each section break.
Note: There needs to be one fewer value for the Speedometer Graph Sections than
the number of values you have listed in Graph Value Groups section.
8) Hit OK & save your painting by clicking on the Save and Deploy button.
