Adding a Smartlink Return Data

Chances are you have seen a Return Data feature before and not even realized you have the opportunity to build it within m-Power. Return Data features are remarkable as they allow you to provide your end user with when they are entering data into a maintenance application. They will be provided with a link that will allow them to look up data from a pop-up window, select a record, then the window will close and the selected record will load into their original maintenance application.

In the example below, we will be adding information into an Order form, while using the Return Data link to select an existing product for the order.

First we will need to build our maintenance application.

As you can see from the screen above, my maintenance application (729) has three fields. Before we finishing building this file lets build our Lookup file.

Build an inquiry with two fields, the Product Number and Product Description.

Be sure to sequence by the Product Number:

Once your inquiry is built, there is one additional step you will need to do. Click m-Painter for this inquiry.

Click the filed you wish the link displayed on, and click the “Insert/Edit Link” button:

Under the “Link Type” drop down list, select “Return Data”

Click OK. Then click the “Save and Deploy” button.

Now that our inquiry is finished, let’s go back to M729, and finish the application.

Once back in the “Application Options” link for M729, click the “Smartlinks” link. Then, click the “Create” button for Retrieval.

Navigate to the proper Inquiry (the one made in the previous step), and click “Link for Return Data”

The next screen will show all of the fields that it will incorporate in the Smartlink. In other words, the following fields will be copied from the Inquiry to the Maintainer.

In our case, only one field is in common. Select the field(s) you wish to include and click “Accept.”

Build your application, then run it.

With minimal painting, my output screen will look like this:

Clicking the Product Lookup, will result in this screen:

Clicking on “Rear Axle/10SP/” will result in the appropriate Product Number (B1020) automatically being placed in the original maintainer while the pop-up automatically closes.
