mrc-Productivity Series introduces portlets! |
Now the mrc-Productivity Series, and it's latest offering, m-PowerTM can generate portlet applications! So, the first question that likely comes to mind is, what exactly is a portlet, and the second is likely, what does that mean for me?
If you've ever seen an active portal, like the one below, portlets are the various applications you can select and add to (or delete from) your portal. You can also re-size them and/or move them around. They are amazingly adaptable. This new feature gives mrc users the benefit of being able to customize their respective intranet or portal views on a one-to one basis. Users can pick and choose the portlet applications relevant to them individually.

Portals provide an extremely useful interface for viewing corporate information.
And, the best part is, building portlets within m-PowerTM and the mrc-Productivity Series is easy to do.
The process is basically the same as generating Java servlets. The mrc software generates all of the necessary pieces: Java source code, DB logic, the presentation layer (HTML), and a portlet JSP. Then, the Java servlet is simply deployed to the application server, and the portlet is registered to the portal.
The tool generates portlets compliant with portlet specification JSR-168 and can be used with any portal that supports it. While the standard itself is relatively new, nearly all major portal suppliers have pledged support for this standard.
This latest enhancement is available to current mrc customers free of charge.
