Hotline Question of the Month

by Margaret Jeronim

Question:

“How can I display a numeric field with leading zeros in servlet reports? ”

Answer:

For each field that you want to display with leading zeros, you will need to create a user defined edit code. This is either option 42 - 'Edit code maintenance of mrc' in the green screen menu.

Or, it can be found under the Data Dictionary tab in the BEDTM Web menu, under 'Manage User-Defined Edit Codes' link.

If your field is defined in data dictionary as 3.0, your edit code should have the following Edit word: (see figures 1 or 2)

Figure 2-New BEDTM—Browser Enhanced Development environment (click to enlarge)

Note: You can use any character for your edit code symbol, except IBM supplied edit codes. There are some IBM edit codes that you can overwrite and when you try to do that you will be informed by the system. Remember to start your edit word from right to left.

Newly created edit codes can be applied at the dictionary level (in option 32 - Work with Data Dictionary files) or at the application level.
