Hotline Question of the Month

by Margaret Jeronim

Question:

“ The mrc-Productivity Series seems to be ignoring a lot of the built in security features that come with the iSeries (AS/400).

For example, all of our payroll files (actually the entire payroll library on the iSeries) are secured with an authorization list, and only those few on the list are allowed access to that library. The mrc-Productivity Series allows anyone with a 400 signon to access any file on the iSeries.

Why is that happening? ”

Answer:

Your programs are compiled with a setting to check the developer's authority and to ignore the users. To fix this, run the MRCUPDDFT command and select option 1- General System Control Values. Under the User profile the setting is currently listed as *OWNER.

Change that from *OWNER to *USER and then recompile your applications. This will allow you to use the iSeries authority that you have in place. See Figure 1 below.
