Anyone in IT knows this simple truth: Keep learning or your skills will eventually become obsolete. As technology moves forward, formerly valuable skills begin losing their luster. The challenege: Figuring out which skills will be most useful in the future.
If you need some help with that challenge, here’s a list of the top 12 IT skills in demand this year. Once again, Java programming leads the pack as the most sought after IT skill. On a side note, if you ever want a list of the most popular programming languages, check out the TIOBE index.
I was surprised by a few items on the list. Specifically, I’m surprised at the rise of Apex and Python, as well as the declining salaries of .NET developers. However, I’m not surprised at the increased demand for those with security skills. More and more companies are placing importance on security as they move towards the cloud, develop mobile strategies, or fight to stay ahead of cyber threats.
