IT is a unique field. On one hand, IT professionals are at the forefront of the ever-changing technology landscape. They are in a prime position to find new ways for businesses to save time and money with technology.
On the other hand, it’s unlike nearly every other job field. The hours aren’t always your standard 9-5. Additionally, the learning never stops. IT professionals must constantly educate themselves to keep their skills current. Most importantly, the business depends on the IT department to keep everything running smoothly. When things break, the IT department is usually blamed.
In short, there’s a lot of pressure.
So, what do you need to be successful in this unique job field? I think this article on techrepublic.com entitled “10 things you gotta have to succeed in IT,” does a great job summing it up. What do you think? Should anything else be added to that list? Feel free to share in the comments.
