I recently ran across a great article entitled, “6 hottest new jobs in IT.” While it lists some of the best up-and-coming tech jobs, it also sheds light on another big topic: Important tech trends of the near future.
If multiple companies are looking for the same new skillsets at the same time, that should tell you something: These are skills that will shape tech trends in the very near future. Based on the skills mentioned in the article, upcoming tech trends include data management, the cloud, and mobile. Frankly, that’s not entirely surprising, but I’d like to take that one step further. I think one of the most important upcoming trends stems from a combination of those three: We’re moving towards an always-connected, yet platform-independent environment.
What do I mean by that?
What if you could access your data from anywhere via the web, using any device (smartphone/tablet/PC)? Also, what if your applications knew which device you were using, and changed their format accordingly? For example, an application that looks native on a smartphone would look different, yet native on a tablet. However, it’s the same underlying application, pulling data from the same database. You wouldn’t have separate apps or have to worry about integrating mobile apps with your business apps. It’s all the same thing. From a business perspective, this is far more attractive than disparate, platform-specific mobile apps.
What do you think? If you have any insights into important new tech trends, I’d love to hear them in the comments.
