Over the last few years, I’ve typically shared recipes around the holidays, but I’d like to do something a little different this year. Considering that businesses really began getting into mobile apps this year, combined with the fact that I’ve covered the topic at length, I think it’s only fitting to give you a few Thanksgiving-related mobile apps.
So, I’ve searched high and low, and have come up with a short list of mobile apps that could help you during this Thanksgiving holiday. I’ve broken them up into three Thanksgiving-related categories. Let’s get started:
Apps to help you with your Thanksgiving dinner
You can’t mention “Thanksgiving” without instantly thinking about food. For those that aren’t professionals in the kitchen, these apps will make sure that you’re not stuck ordering takeout:
Chow Thanksgiving Dinner Coach (iPhone) – This app will help you put a traditional Thanksgiving meal together from start to finish. It lets you choose from a list of recipes and then builds a shopping list for you based on the recipes you’ve chosen. It even gives you step-by-step instructions for making each dish.
Thanksgiving Menu Maker (iPad) – Very similar to the Chow Thanksgiving Dinner Coach in that it lets you choose recipes and builds shopping lists for you. However, this has far more recipes and a great interface that takes advantage of the iPad’s larger screen.
Taste of Home (Android) – Not quite as full featured as the other two apps, but it does have a bunch of great Thanksgiving recipes, complete with user reviews so you know which ones are best.
Apps that help you with Thanksgiving travel
Whether you’re flying across the country, or just driving across town, travel is a large part of the holiday. These apps will help your travel plans flow smoothly, by plane or car.
Waze (Android & iPhone) – Waze is a free, crowdsourced traffic & navigation app. Unlike an ordinary navigation app, it uses real-time road reports from drivers nearby to help you save time and avoid traffic. For instance, if other Waze users indicate there is congestion on your route home, it can help you find a better route.
Apps for those who love Thanksgiving football
It’s not Thanksgiving without football! Did you know that the NFL’s “Thanksgiving Classic” game dates all the way back to its inception in 1920? Or, did you know that the tradition of playing a professional football game on Thanksgiving began in the early 1890s? Here are a couple of nice apps for those that enjoy this long-standing football tradition:
Thanksgiving Football Statistics (All Platforms) – Learning that NFL football on Thanksgiving dates all the way back to 1920 made me a little curious. Have the Lions and Cowboys played every Thanksgiving? What’s the Bears’ record on Thanksgiving? However, I couldn’t find an app with Thanksgiving football statistics, so…we made one!
Before I share the link, here’s a tip: Don’t get confused when you click the link below on your PC and see that it looks like a regular application. We made it with m-Power, which means it looks native on every platform. When you open it on your PC, it will look like a normal web app. But, if you open it up on a smartphone or tablet, it will look like a native smartphone or tablet app. If all of that sounds confusing, this page explains how it works in greater detail. Make sense now? Alright, here’s the Thanksgiving Football Statistics app. It lists every game going back to 1920 along with every team’s Win/Loss record on Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy it!
There you have it: A list of great apps that might come in very handy this Thanksgiving. Of course, if you know of any others, feel free to share.
One more thing: From all of us here at mrc, we wish you safe travels and a very happy Thanksgiving!
