{"id":272,"date":"2008-02-29T03:45:31","date_gmt":"2008-02-29T09:45:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/docs\/?page_id=272"},"modified":"2025-06-06T14:48:03","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T19:48:03","slug":"managing-m-power-installs","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/docs\/knowledge-base\/managing-m-power-installs","title":{"rendered":"Managing m-Power Installations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-info\">If you are a new m-Power customer, please see the documentation for installing and configuring m-Power for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/docs\/getting-started\/installing-and-configuring-m-power-for-windows\">new customers<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This documentation provides information on configuring m-Power for existing customers using a Windows server. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"semiTemp\"><\/a>Updating or Replacing a License<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are replacing an expiring license, after receiving the license, it will need to be copied and overwritten into the following three locations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\\mrc\\development\\m-power\\proddata\\conf<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\\mrc\\development\\m-power\\mrcjava<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\\mrc\\production\\m-power\\mrcjava (all production instances)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Both the production and development Tomcat will then need to be restarted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Purchasing Additional Licenses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have purchased an additional license, you will be sent a new license file (<strong>mrclicense.txt<\/strong>) via email. This new license will entirely replace the existing license. After receiving this license, it will need to be copied and overwritten into the following three locations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\\m-power\\development\\m-power\\proddata\\conf<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\\m-power\\development\\m-power\\m-power\\mrcjava<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\\m-power\\production\\m-power\\m-power\\mrcjava (repeat for all production instances)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-info\"><strong>Note &#8211;<\/strong> After the new license file is in place, you will need to restart both the production and development Tomcat in order for the changes to take effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each newly licensed database will now need to be configured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To do so, open the sign-in screen to the m-Power development interface. Click the &#8220;<strong>Configure m-Power<\/strong>&#8221; link and the following configuration screen will appear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure data-wp-context=\"{&quot;imageId&quot;:&quot;69e4999880dd5&quot;}\" data-wp-interactive=\"core\/image\" data-wp-key=\"69e4999880dd5\" class=\"wp-block-image size-large wp-lightbox-container\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-wp-class--hide=\"state.isContentHidden\" data-wp-class--show=\"state.isContentVisible\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on--click=\"actions.showLightbox\" data-wp-on--load=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-window--resize=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" src=\"\/docs\/images\/mpower_configurenewdb.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><button\n\t\t\tclass=\"lightbox-trigger\"\n\t\t\ttype=\"button\"\n\t\t\taria-haspopup=\"dialog\"\n\t\t\taria-label=\"Enlarge\"\n\t\t\tdata-wp-init=\"callbacks.initTriggerButton\"\n\t\t\tdata-wp-on--click=\"actions.showLightbox\"\n\t\t\tdata-wp-style--right=\"state.imageButtonRight\"\n\t\t\tdata-wp-style--top=\"state.imageButtonTop\"\n\t\t>\n\t\t\t<svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"12\" height=\"12\" fill=\"none\" viewBox=\"0 0 12 12\">\n\t\t\t\t<path fill=\"#fff\" d=\"M2 0a2 2 0 0 0-2 2v2h1.5V2a.5.5 0 0 1 .5-.5h2V0H2Zm2 10.5H2a.5.5 0 0 1-.5-.5V8H0v2a2 2 0 0 0 2 2h2v-1.5ZM8 12v-1.5h2a.5.5 0 0 0 .5-.5V8H12v2a2 2 0 0 1-2 2H8Zm2-12a2 2 0 0 1 2 2v2h-1.5V2a.5.5 0 0 0-.5-.5H8V0h2Z\" \/>\n\t\t\t<\/svg>\n\t\t<\/button><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once this Configure your m-Power Platform screen, select your newly licensed database, and enter your credentials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-alert\">These credentials entered here <strong>must <\/strong>have authority to read and write data, in addition to being able to create\/alter database objects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Migrating m-Power to a new server<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-danger\">First, make sure your existing installation of m-Power is on the very latest update. The m-Power update can be downloaded from the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/mrcjava\/servlet\/CUSTPORTAL.I00350s\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/mrcjava\/servlet\/CUSTPORTAL.I00350s\" target=\"_blank\">Customer Portal.<\/a> <strong>Do not continue until this step is done<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the existing m-Power has been updated, proceed to migrating to the new server. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the new server meets ALL of the following conditions, please proceed to the &#8220;Migrating m-Power exactly as-is&#8221;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>m-Power versions are the same.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>m-Power folder locations are the same.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tomcat ports and version are the same (latest version: Tomcat 10)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Database stays the same.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Java versions stay the same (latest version: Java 17)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the new server does not meet all of the above conditions, please proceed to &#8220;Migrating m-Power with changes&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/docs\/knowledge-base\/managing-m-power-installs#migrating-m-power-exactly-as-is\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/docs\/knowledge-base\/managing-m-power-installs#migrating-m-power-exactly-as-is\">Migrating m-Power exactly as-is<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/docs\/knowledge-base\/managing-m-power-installs#migrating-m-power-with-changes\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mrc-productivity.com\/docs\/knowledge-base\/managing-m-power-installs#migrating-m-power-with-changes\">Migrating m-Power with changes<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"exactmigrate\">Migrating m-Power exactly as-is<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If the new server meets the following conditions, please proceed with the instructions in this section. If any of the below conditions are not met, please move to the next section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-list heroic-styled-list\" id=\"heroic-styled-list-57e508f1-aa92-488d-9680-8e08274e2f4c\"><ol class=\"fa-ul\"><li>Download the m-Power software. To download m-Power, please <a href=\"mailto:sales@mrc-productivity.com\">contact<\/a> a member of our sales team.<\/li><li>Before continuing, download and save your mrclicense.txt file to your C:\\ drive.<\/li><li>Install m-Power by double clicking the .exe file. (Administrator rights are required for installation).<\/li><li>The installation program will install all necessary components of m-Power (including the Java Developer Kit, as well as service installation for your Tomcat application server).<\/li><li>Once completed, you will be required to reboot your server. m-Power will be unable to compile new applications until after this step is completed.<\/li><li>At this point, you should be able to test that your system was set up correctly by going to (where 999.999.999.999 is the IP address of your Windows server). <strong>Note:<\/strong> If you can not connect, be sure that no firewall is blocking activity on Port 8011.<\/li><li>Finally, click the &#8220;Admin Menu&#8221; button in the navigation bar. Then click &#8220;System Management&#8221;, then &#8220;Version &amp; Software Update.&#8221; On this screen, click &#8220;Apply Update&#8221;. If you see an error, please ensure your user has full authority on the database.<\/li><li>Copy the entire m-Power folder from the old server to the new installation. Restart Tomcat.<\/li><\/ol><style>#heroic-styled-list-57e508f1-aa92-488d-9680-8e08274e2f4c li:before{\n\t\t                   background:#000000;\n\t\t                   border-radius: 0;\n\t\t                   }<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You should now be able to login to m-Power and access all dictionaries and applications from your old server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"changedmigrate\">Migrating m-Power with changes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If there are any aspects of the migration that are changing, you will have to manually move different folders or files to the new installation. Please follow these instructions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-list heroic-styled-list\" id=\"heroic-styled-list-db330c80-fe2d-4de9-aa4f-87dbc8f31b8c\"><ol class=\"fa-ul\"><li>Download the m-Power software. To download m-Power, please <a href=\"mailto:sales@mrc-productivity.com\">contact<\/a> a member of our sales team.<\/li><li>Copy and save your mrclicense.txt file to your c:\\ drive. m-Power is licensed by your database&#8217;s IP address. If only your server is changing and your database will remain the same, you can use your old license. If your database IP is changing, you must <a href=\"mailto:sales@mrc-productivity.com\">contact<\/a> us at your earliest convenience for a new license key.<\/li><li>Install m-Power by double clicking the .exe file. (Administrator rights are required for installation).<\/li><li>Once completed, you will be required to reboot your server. m-Power will be unable to compile new applications until after this step is completed.<\/li><li>At this point, you should be able to test that your system was set up correctly by going to (where 999.999.999.999 is the IP address of your Windows server). <strong>Note:<\/strong> If you can not connect, be sure that no firewall is blocking activity on Port 8011.<\/li><li>Configure m-Power by following the &#8220;Configuring m-Power&#8221; section <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"\/docs\/knowledge-base\/installing-and-configuring-m-power-for-windows#configuring-m-power\" data-type=\"URL\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. Once signed into the interface, press &#8220;Apply Update&#8221; from the popup window that appears. Make sure this process successfully completes.<\/li><li>To move your runtime applications, the entire \/mrcjava folder can be copied to the new m-Power folder. Be sure to do this for both development and production, if necessary.<\/li><li>To move your dictionary settings, move the \/proddata\/conf\/mpower-config-DICTIONARY.xml files where DICTIONARY is the name of your used dictionaries. No need to repeat with production.<\/li><li>To move over the embedded database, move the \/derby folder to the new installation. No need to repeat with production. <\/li><li>To move your interface settings, move the \/mrcwebgui folder to the new installation. No need to repeat with production.<\/li><li>If applicable, move any customized Tomcat files to the new server. (i.e. \/tomcat\/conf\/web.xml or \/tomcat\/conf\/server.xml)<\/li><\/ol><style>#heroic-styled-list-db330c80-fe2d-4de9-aa4f-87dbc8f31b8c li:before{\n\t\t                   background:#000000;\n\t\t                   border-radius: 0;\n\t\t                   }<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on what might be changing in your server migration, please find these additional bullet(s) points that may apply to your migration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are an Microsoft SQL Server customer: Copy the SQL Server driver mssql-jdbc-X.X.X.jre17.jar to the new &#8230;\/m-power\/tomcat\/lib location. Repeat for production.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the m-Power folder locations change: Update the derby path in the \/mrcwebgui\/WEB-INF\/classes\/mrc-spring-context.xml file and the context path in the \/tomcat\/conf\/server.xml.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the Tomcat Ports change: In the new server&#8217;s \/tomcat\/conf\/server.xml file, find the default connector port=&#8221;8011&#8243; and change this to the appropriate port where tomcat is installed. Repeat as needed for production.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that the mrc_runtime.properties file (mrcjava\/WEB-INF\/classes) as well as the messaging.properties file (mrcjava\/job_streams), will be correctly pointing to this new server.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations &#8212; You have successfully moved m-Power to your new Windows server.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This documentation provides information on configuring m-Power for existing customers using a Windows server.
