Various customers of m-Power have often inquired about utilizing barcodes within m-Power applications. While barcodes does not exist as a “built-in” functionality with m-Power, the request has always be certainly doable through the use of a little bit of custom code (such as jQuery). Most commonly customers are interested in creating an application over a database field which contained barcode data (often a numeric value). Once the application was ran, end-users would be able to quickly scan on-hand inventory from the barcode on-screen, and also have the ability to print out the barcodes to access at a later date.
What follows below is a custom Barcode Retrieval template that utilizes the Barcode jQuery plugin (more information on said plugin can be found here). Rather than having the customer learn the “ins and outs” of jQuery to be able to utilize this feature, all that’s needed is select the Barcode template, indicate which field should be used to create the barcode and that’s it – absolutely no coding needed! This template creates a Retrieval application that automatically creates an on-screen barcode based upon a database value. The barcode can be either be read on-screen or printed.

After you have downloaded and installed this template, please remember that as the documentation will state you must indicate to m-Power which field should be used to plot your barcode when creating the application. You can do this in the Field settings screen by adding *BARCODE to the appropriate field description.
