Displaying Graphs in a Report

Overview

The Regular Report template does not contain a graph. While in the past, you could include a graph in your report, the vast majority of users were not interested in this. Instead, users either wanted to consume their graphs standalone (with no data) or as part of a multi-graphed dashboard.

That being said, there still may be times when you need to include a graph side by side with a report. This documentation will walk you through how to do this.

Create Graph

To create your graph, build a report template using the Report Designer Template. After creating the report and compiling it, click the “Report Designer” button to customize your graph.

The Report designer allows developers to have a variety of output choices, including graphs. To tell the Report Designer you want a graph, click the “Layout: Standard” button and change it to “Chart”

Now, you can utilize the Report Designer’s built in graph wizard to customize your graph. Up first, you can select your chart type.

Next, include which fields you would like to be part of your report by dragging and dropping them to the area on the right.

Next, the Chart Levels lets the developer control where the data for their report is being collected.

Clicking next, takes you to to the Groups/Labels screen, which lets you adjust the graph labels.

The final screen within the Report Designer’s graph wizard contains several optional configurations. When completed, press Finish.

Be sure to save any changes in the Report Designer editor before saving and exiting.

Embed Graph into Parent Report

Now that the graph is created, open m-Painter for your parent report (That is, the report that will ultimately contain the graph that was created during the previous step).

Click in the report where you would like your graph rendered. Once you’ve clicked, select “Import Content from Another App” within the Retrieve Additional Data” section of the UI & Data Options panel.

Select the Report Designer application that was built in the previous section from within the popup window.

If you wish to pass common parameters between your report and the report designer’s graph, please do so within the “Map Fields” section.

Any keys or record selection values you wish to flow through from the parent report to the graph need to be mapped accordingly.

When completed, you will see a rendering of a graph. This graph cannot be edited here and is only used as a placeholder.
